If you are a boomer; graying or otherwise, you remember laughing at this when the Smothers Brothers were playing in a VHF universe and HD was the strength you bought in batteries for your household. In a blog, "Caring For Aging Parents", written by Paula Span which appears in The New York Times, she writes that middle-aged children often recognized that their parents favored on child over another. This can lead to to some costly anger at the expense of oneself or the parent's estate. Mediation, or at the least, informal conflict resolution would greatly increase the chances of resolving age-old issues such as this. There is not one "size that fits all" as the dynamics of each family are unique to themselves. It may not immediately make things right, but it goes a long way to start the healing and closure process.
I just got off the phone with party who told me that she lives 150 miles from her mother's driveway and her sister lives 18 miles from their mom. It didn't take me multiple guesses to figure out who got the phone call from mom. Sure sounds like a candidate for mediation, doesn't it?
Speaking of families, Thursday is Thanksgiving so let's give thanks to the families getting together, dysfunctional or otherwise to share time with loved ones.
